Input variables
| Variable | Meaning | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| w | Finished cushion width | cm |
| d | Finished cushion depth | cm |
| h | Finished cushion thickness | cm |
| s | Seam allowance | cm |
| join | Extra boxing length for joins | cm |
Equations
Top/bottom cut width · cm
topw = w+2*s
Top/bottom cut depth · cm
topd = d+2*s
Boxing cut width · cm
bandw = h+2*s
Boxing length · cm
bandl = 2*(w+d)+join
Total cut-piece area · m2
area = (2*topw*topd+bandw*bandl)/10000
Notation
PI means π. ** means a power, sqrt means square root, and abs gives the absolute value. Trigonometric functions use radians. min and max select the smallest or largest argument.
ceil rounds upward, floor rounds downward, and round rounds to the nearest integer with halves toward positive infinity. roundup(value, step) rounds upward to the next multiple of the step; a zero step leaves the value unchanged.
Assumptions
- This is a cut list, not a fabric nesting or yardage guarantee.
- Zippers, piping, pattern matching and fabric stretch need separate treatment.
- The finished dimensions are chosen by you; foam compression is not modeled.
- A continuous band generally needs joins and a closure design.
Precision and verification
The tool uses ordinary double-precision numeric arithmetic. Output is displayed to at most four decimal places; measurement precision is usually much lower. Check the worked examples, your project’s specifications, and a real sample before committing material.
